I have old IBM Aptiva 2168-M70 that someone 'polluted' at some moment in time with Win98, while originally it came with OS/2 Warp Connect or 4.0 (dont remember) and DOS (or Win3.11 - Im not sure now).
I spent lot of time on the phone to IBM US (and Canada) trying to obtain the 'restore' discs for this computer, but sadly nothing can be done, or so they say, and some idiots at IBM didn't even knew OS/2 is their own IBM's product (! seriously).
Anyone out here who can help? Original discs (if you don't need them anymore) or copies are fine with me, I am an original owner of the product, registered at IBM ages ago, so it is not any piracy - I just didnt made any software backups when I should have, and now theyre gone..

Hey guys, so i finsished a few days ago my IBM aptiva 2170 Sleeper PC mod, and i a m quite glad of it so i wanted to share it with yall. Those are the specs
-GYGABITE Z170n WiFi
-i7 6700k
-GTX 1070 KFA2 Exoc
-FuryX 16GB DDR4
-SSD 250go Samsung 750
-HDD Seagate 1TO
I had to make some ajustments, first the PSU. The IBM Aptiva has a strange PSU, with the lenght of an SFX but the front of an ATX psu. So i bought a Zalman 450w SFX for 45 bucks and a SFX to ATX bracket for 20 bucks. The built in 80mm fan was quite noisy (even if the box said otherwise lol 'super quiet fan), so i soldered a new artic 80mm fan to the PSU in replacement of the older one. Much much better.
Then basically the case had no blowholes, so i had to cut with a sliverline dremel and 'diamond' cutting disc one hole in front of 120mm and a back hole of 120mm too. And this metal was kinda hell to cut, plus it was my firts time with such a tool. Now the air flows really well.
At first, the graphic card didn't fit with the fan, so i had to remove the shell from the card (wich has no real purpose) and now it is close, but it fits perfectly!
For the back hole, i din't find yet something to cover itn i had some old school grills but too large (see the pictures).
Then i bought an optical drive that i painted in beige to fit the rest of the case, as well as a 3.5 inch bay with 2 USB 3.0 and 2 audio jacks, with a 5.25 to 3.5 bay adapter, that i painted in beige too, since the case have only two 5.25 bays.
Also, i bought the origianl keyboard mouse, which are really nice.
And the last thing was the front pannel leds, the connectors was not standard so i cut those from my old case, soldered it to the leds of the IBM and pluggged them in the mobo.

Hey, not sure if you will get this, but I am interested in doing a version of this build myself (with the same case and all). Probably just using micro atx instead of mini itx. Is there any chance you could post photos of the inside? I've never built a PC before and would love some reference points to work off of.

Hello dude ! I'd be glad to help you out. Since histoire post i made some improvements to the case (drilles holes for fans screws, added dust filters etc). I'll post some pictures and answer your questions tomorrow pal !

Ibm Aptiva Specs
So some details here, i added at the front and back 120mm dust filters on the fans, i drilled at the front holes to mount the fan properly (before it was hanging with 1 screw, now 4 screws, neat). At the back the fans and radiator is holding tight with pressure, and really it is as good as with screws. I had to file the rear fan for it to fit on the spot if you see what i meen

The original motherboard was a micro atx, i have a mini itx, but micro atx should be best since it fits perfectly and you could really benefit to use the extra expansion slots (maybe doing an sli in that thing hahaha ). Furthermore the galax gtx 1070 exoc is a big card compared to reference models or even other aftermarket models, so it's one of the reasons why it's tight. I'd suggest to go like me with 1 3.5mm hdd and one sdd, or even 2.5mm hdd ans sdd. I could fit 2 3.5mm hdd and the ssd in between on the bay but it's kind of a mess, so there is that.
